She wrote the letter because she always had, and she thought maybe, somehow, she could use the words to catch that spark again. Pepper looked down at the blank paper, 'Dear Santa' scribbled across the top in green crayon, and tried to care.

Dear Santa,

Tried to remember how to care.

Dear Santa,

Because if she couldn't do this, what was left?

Dear Santa,

Ray found her, just before the rising sun forced Pepper back inside, sitting on the porch swing, staring at a blank piece of paper. Without a word she freed the crayon from Pepper's half-frozen grip and finished the letter for her.

Dear Santa,

Please give my girlfriend the brains to know when to come in out of the cold because Lord knows she's not going to figure it out by herself.

Rachel.

And she proceeded to remind Pepper that there were more important things to care about. A vampire had to have priorities after all...
