"You aren't fooling anyone," the Dark Lord gazed over the rim of his glass, red eyes glinting in the firelight. The chessboard beside him lay half-empty, the remaining pieces scattered.
"I didn't think I was." Snape stepped over Nagini's coils to take the chair opposite Voldemort. "But then, I don't need to, do I?" Snape moved another rook and two pawns off the board. "I told you not to underestimate him."
Voldemort snarled at the chessboard, hands clenching, then abruptly laughed, tipping his glass. "To my Grey Knight, bearer of bad tidings."
"Not yours."
"But not his?" Voldemort smiled.
"No."
