"Bedknobs and Broomsticks?" Rose jumped in her chair as the Doctor leaned over her shoulder, peering curiously at the protagonists cavorting in an animated ocean. "What brought that on?"

She raised an eyebrow.

"Look, it's not my fault we're stuck at the bottom of this lovely little ocean. I hadn’t planned on outside interference."

"I didn’t touch the dammed button," Jack retorted from behind the heap of machinery he was tinkering with. "This time, anyway."

"Well you weren’t helping either."

Rose grinned and went back to her movie, leaving the boys to bicker about whose fault it wasn't. This time.

SUMMARY: Challange #131 Alphabet Redux (Letter D), otherwise known as "How Neville Will Destroy The World"

Disastrous is too mild a word, Snape though to himself as he attempted to unstick Neville's cauldron from where it had fused itself to the table. Damned if I know how he manages such unrepeatable accidents. Daunting as the inevitable classroom explosions were, they were also completely unique in nature and method. Dark Lord or no, the wizarding world might have more to fear in the inept boy's budding talents as a Natural Disaster in Training than anything coherently evil. Defending his classroom, much less the world from Neville's flair for the explosive was not something he looked forward to.

Sometimes they said no.

It happened more often in the beginning, when he was less polished in his roles. When the invitations had seemed less whimsical, and more complex. His words held more weight back then, until he'd learned to lessen the overtones of time and age that leached like water through sand. He was the ocean, deep and dark and dangerous, and they left him on the shore. In time he learned to hide it, bury his self in the depths of the sea, and when he asked them now, "Would you like to come along?"

She said yes.
