TITLE: Homecoming

AU: Where the Ocean Meets the Sky
LENGTH/RATING: 100 words, PG/Dark
SUMMARY: What if Atlantis had to rescue herself? AU from first season.

It was five years before Atlantis learned to recharge ZPMs. They gated to a ravaged Earth, population decimated by Ori plagues and a SGC standing by will alone.

Atlantis had long since won her own peace, on the wings of a vengeance unacceptable to most. But she had the strength they needed, and Atlantis lent troops to defend her ancestral home.

If anyone noticed that Atlantis asked nothing in return, needed nothing in return, they ignored it. Protection was worth the price, at first, before they realized just how much their children had grown.

By then it was too late.

It was a planet of knitters. Compulsive knitters. What a waste of-- "Ow!" Rodney rubbed his arm where Sheppard had elbowed him. "What was that for?"

"You were looking superior again."

"Was not."

"Was to," John snorted, "and don't you dare say a word this time. Remember the last planet you mortally insulted with your genius?"

"Occam's razor!" The scientist protested. "How I was I supposed to know it was an actual unicorn?"

Sheppard just looked at him.

"Besides tha." Rodney waved off the accusation. "And it's not like it's some mystical knitting fetish."

"Let's not find out."

"Fine, fine."

SUMMARY: You never knew until you looked.
WARNINGS/SPOILERS: None

It was never easy watching them go, knowing the odds meant that sometime someone wouldn't be coming home. Probabilities that didn't care for age or occupation or how much luck they'd already bled through. But they weren't meant to die of old age, none of them were. Not since they'd stepped foot through the eight symbol gate not knowing what was on the other side. An endless game of Schrödinger's cat bound by a silver ring and a bottomless ocean that wasn't. Alive or dead. Alive and dead. All the myriad possibilities that hung on a single phrase.

"Incoming Wormhole."

TITLE: Except
FANDOM: Peter Pan
LENGTH/RATING: 100 words, PG/Dark
SUMMARY: Ever wonder why the pirates hate Peter Pan so much?

Peter never grew older, but neither did Hook. The boy skipped through the centuries living moment to moment in blissful forgetfulness. The man clawed his way from sun-up to sun-down, focused on the one thing that would set him free.

The pirates died... and rose to life again as soon as Peter forgot he'd killed them. They'd long ago given up on escaping immortality the easy way, death never lasted long in Neverland.

Except.

Tink's magic may have brought the boy to Neverland, but Pan was Neverland now. Everything danced to his whims, and he'd never let them go.

Except.

SUMMARY: "Fair Maid of Mine, with tresses gold..." and other half-remembered lyrics from long-ago ballads make for amusing contests. [livejournal.com profile] dw100 Challenge #135, Shameless/shameful

Jack sang something old and improper and spun her around in the starlight to half-remembered tunes. The Doctor laughed at Jack's blatantly improvised lyrics and Rose's conflicting accompaniment where she'd learned different words. So they drew him in with 'So you can do better?' and the three of them played a game of Horse, with songs instead of baskets, till the moonlight faded into the dawn and they were all slightly punch-drunk for lack of sleep. And the TARDIS lured them back with songs soaked in time, a gentle lullaby of forever that danced them all to bed, still laughing.

SUMMARY: 'How far' is never an easy question to answer. [livejournal.com profile] dw100 Challenge #132 is fair

The Companions always asked 'how much further' when really they meant 'how much longer.' He'd always tell them 'not far' because it wasn't ever, not in the grand scheme of things. Even for lives so short and bright, it was never far. And then one time it was. The difference between 'not far' and 'too far' boiled down to seconds and lives, and he'd guessed wrong.

Now when they asked him he told them he didn't know; it would take as long as it took. They might look at him oddly, but always shrugged it off as just another eccentricity.

CHALLENGE: Time is always relative, and he's relatively tired of it. [livejournal.com profile] dw100 Challenge #21 Boats

It wasn't that he hated the sea, or sailing, it was the sense of timelessness; afloat on a blue horizon with no way to tell how fast or how far he'd traveled. In a more modern age he'd tap the nav computer, hack its programming so that shore leave would come sooner rather than later. But in a more modern age, he wouldn't have been pressed to the Queen’s service to start with. Not that he was bad at it, this sailoring bit, and he toyed with some piratical ideas, but time weighed heavy and he was itching to run.

PARING/WARNINGS: None
SUMMARY: There is a power in names. (Antoine Bellany)

His siblings called him Ant, short for Antoine, because they knew he hated it. His Dad, oblivious, called him his Army Ant, inheritor of well-worn footprints from four generations of Army doctors. Even in school, the nickname found him.

When he joined the Marines, it was because they called him Bellany.

But they call him Ant now, and it isn't because of the old reasons he left behind. It’s because when it came down to the impossible or death, he carried someone twice his size back through three miles of jungle to the gate.

And now, somehow, the nickname fits.

SUMMARY: Just because you have had your dominant hand injured does not mean you let the rest of your team draw straws about who gets to do the mission report. It gives John headaches. (Imaginary Gate Team 5 would like to point out this is all Rodney's fault because if he wasn't setting such a bad example for the other geeks Steven wouldn't be so determined to find a working ZPM and outdo him, just to see the look on his face. Which would be priceless, but is not worth getting eaten for. *nod*)
