Sometimes they said no.

It happened more often in the beginning, when he was less polished in his roles. When the invitations had seemed less whimsical, and more complex. His words held more weight back then, until he'd learned to lessen the overtones of time and age that leached like water through sand. He was the ocean, deep and dark and dangerous, and they left him on the shore. In time he learned to hide it, bury his self in the depths of the sea, and when he asked them now, "Would you like to come along?"

She said yes.

"Bedknobs and Broomsticks?" Rose jumped in her chair as the Doctor leaned over her shoulder, peering curiously at the protagonists cavorting in an animated ocean. "What brought that on?"

She raised an eyebrow.

"Look, it's not my fault we're stuck at the bottom of this lovely little ocean. I hadn’t planned on outside interference."

"I didn’t touch the dammed button," Jack retorted from behind the heap of machinery he was tinkering with. "This time, anyway."

"Well you weren’t helping either."

Rose grinned and went back to her movie, leaving the boys to bicker about whose fault it wasn't. This time.

It wasn't the first time he'd wished there was a window in the door. In fact, if he thought about it, which he really didn't have time to, it might have been closer to his five hundredth musing on doors and windows and the advantages of seeing what was on the other side before you flung it open willy-nilly. But he didn't have time to think about that. He only had time to think about who was knocking on the door, as the Tardis was currently nestled several fathoms below normal oceanic habitation. But still... he could've used the window.

SUMMARY: Humans are a forgiving sort... [livejournal.com profile] dw100 Challenge #11: Companions

He wasn't human, although he looked it. He dressed the same, but sometimes oddly; spoke in familiar rhythms and accents. He even mingled when temperament allowed. But there was danger in mingling, not every species welcomed his brand of friendship; a charade flavored with wit, and charm, and lies, and the damming dash of immortality. He touched them in passing, little lives speeding by faster than he would admit. She was here, then gone. Then another, and another, all lost to the one thing he couldn't control, couldn't thwart, couldn't save them from.

He wasn't human, yet they didn't care.

SUMMARY: Another world, another time, and those same four syllables. [livejournal.com profile] dw100 Challenge #6: Hate.

My world died on a single word, four syllables screeched in a metallic voice. Burned in the same culling fires as the hundreds before it, no more important or unique, and yet... We didn’t wait. We didn’t hold out hope of some divine decree or prophetic rescue. We didn’t put our faith in diplomacy or weaponry. We didn’t cower in fear or rage in anger. We simply built.

And now, cloaked in technology learned in those last desperate years, we grow. They are not the only species that can learn to hate, and we will have our revenge against...

Exterminate.
